Chick peas are cheap, bland and readily available. Like your average Big Brother auditionee. But dressed up in masalas, they’re quite another story.
They are delicious and so easy to cook. I found a fantastic Atul Kochhar recipe for lamb in chick peas in the BBC’s Olive Magazine. Line three of the recipe said something about [...]

The number of recipes on this blog certainly has no relation to the amount of food I’ve been consuming lately. The weekend was a food fest. I made two kinds of risotto on Friday night for guests and then on Saturday totally pigged out on superb home-cooked Indian food at my Telegu friend Rithika’s flat. [...]

It’s not been a good week for Indian cooking. I’ve had adjust my focus from dhal to driving lessons. And I would take dhal anyday.
I’m not sure why driving isn’t losing popularity? Clutch control is infinitely more complicated than chopping, stirring and following recipes. But some may beg to differ.
Mind you three pots is the [...]

I’m amazed by the new trend for people not wanting to cook. Peter Grove mentioned it yesterday. And you can barely watch TV these days without having some celebrity chef chastising you for not cooking at home. Jun Tanaka, Jamie Oliver, Gordon Ramsay… the list goes on.
To be honest, I think celeb chefs are part [...]

If you needed an excuse to eat Indian food, you’ve got it. It’s National Curry Week in the UK and restaurants across the country are busying themselves with activities like building the tallest stack of papads, making the world’s biggest curry etc.
Menu Magazine, the event organiser, aims to get people to contribute £1 every time [...]

I was startled to find musings on the blogosphere yesterday casting doubts on the benefits of spices. The goodness in the masalas used widely in Indian cooking is well-documented and the subject of regular research.
I ain’t no geek but I do take a close interest in what I consume. (Apart from exotic cocktails, chocolate biscuits [...]

Remember I wrote about S0BB, the size 0 lovely who sits behind me at work and eats leaves on a regular basis? So finally this weekend, I cooked child friendly, low fat, dry Indian dish to lure her into the big bad world of Indian cooking (as if!!).
This dish is my take on the traditional [...]

After another long week at work, Hubby and I decided to kick the shoes off and chill out on the couch last night. I decided to put Divya’s Prawn Biryani in a hurry recipe to the test. The words “in a hurry” really pressed my buttons, touched a nerve etc etc.
Biryani is one of the [...]

Wishing you all happiness, prosperity and good Indian food this year. Hubby and I have declared the kitchen a cooking-free zone today and will be eating Indian out. No fireworks either.
What are you up to?

Paneer, or Indian cheese, is one of those wonderful ingredients that once you discover you wonder how you ever lived without. Making it from scratch is comparable to opening a massive box of shoes only to find flip flops inside it. Sorry boys - think big garage little skoda.
If you want to have a go, try [...]
