I liked your videos but I don't think adding peas and carrots to a basic masoor dal is an authentic Indian dal at all!

Hi Mallika,

Great video.

My Mother was a fabulous cook and so, like you, I didn't really cook until I went to University. I don't know why I wasn't encouraged and I never knew how wonderful cooking was until I left home.

However its not the cooking from an early age that is important but TASTING from an early age. If you have experienced well cooked and well flavoured food I think it is so much easier to cook successfully.

Also, cooking can sense your trepidation and hesitation. Go in relaxed but confident and things always kind of fall into place, I find. Its a bit like dealing with dogs (and computers!).

I hope if Louise took anything away with her it was that confidence to cook a dal!

(I like thick(ish) dal too. Runny tarka dal in restaurants: what's that all about?)

Kindest regards

Richard

Neat, to the point demo of the dal. Even a die hard South Indian like me is now motivated to make it !

We need more videos like that please. Surely, there are dishes from the South you could demo?

Thanks

Hi Sonali - Thanks so much for your comment and feedback. I recommend pressure cookers a lot, having only acquired and learnt to use one last year myself. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't use pressure cookers. None of my friends, associates or colleagues. So I don't want to put people off by using it in the first video. Maybe in a future one... who knows!

Best

Hi Mallika, cheers for making indian food cooked so easy with a glamorous tarka.
I started cooking after my marriage n just an year now so cant praise myself.
I do care about energy saving as well so i dont know how much u appreciate but instead of cooking daal in pan dont u think we can pressure cook the same as it will cook fast and will save the gas/electricity watever.

More so ever to keep the nutrients intact we can cut the carrot in thick pieces, as they will be soft to eat coz they will be boiled.

Once again its nice to watch the video.
